Advancing Healthcare Summit 2026 —Towards the Future of Healthcare: Chosen for the Value of Prevention—
registration
Event Rationale
The global wealthy are currently captivated by the pursuit of aging healthily.
We are entering an era where—through preventive care and medicine focused on healthy longevity—it is becoming possible for many people to reach the end of their lives in the best health they have ever experienced, remaining fully active in both work and leisure right up to the very end, even if immortality remains out of reach.
Meanwhile, in Japan, the elderly population is projected to rise annually through 2040 while the youth population declines; under the current healthcare model—which centers on treating existing diseases—it is predicted that financial resources for insurance-based medical care will steadily deplete. For us as medical professionals to continue safeguarding public health, we must expand “health-oriented medicine” that focuses on preventing lifestyle-related diseases. We also need to establish new systems that allow medical professionals to secure revenue through these efforts, thereby protecting financial resources for those who truly require insurance-covered medical care. As the global and Japanese healthcare landscapes undergo a paradigm shift from a disease-centric model to one focused on prevention and wellness, we face a new opportunity to expand our impact.
We have entered an era where prevention has become a competitive arena; healthcare professionals in Japan are increasingly being evaluated and selected by patients who prioritize preventive care, as well as by international patients seeking preventive and wellness services alongside tourism or business trips.
To help patients recognize the long-term health benefits of prevention—and to earn their trust by delivering tangible results—healthcare professionals must cultivate essential medical knowledge, technical skills, and humanity more than ever before. Young professionals, in particular, require rational clinical education that allows them to efficiently acquire high-quality clinical capabilities in a practical setting.
For this symposium, we have invited leading practitioners and international authorities in medical education—Dr. Kenji Shibuya, Mr. Hajime Nakane, Dr. Yasuharu Tokuda, Dr. Robert Lewando, and Ms. Susan Jenkins—to share insights on cutting-edge preventive and longevity medicine, medical-dental collaboration, and clinical education.
Furthermore, to facilitate practical implementation in the field, we will learn educational approaches from Mr. Yuichi Kudo. As a former principal—notably at Chiyoda Ward’s Kojimachi Junior High School—he has a proven track record of educational reform that restores students’ autonomy and fosters a sense of personal ownership.
Projections indicate that the labor shortage will intensify over the next 15 years, eventually exceeding three times current levels. It is now urgent to implement workplace education that attracts valuable talent to medical institutions. Such education should foster autonomy and ownership, naturally eliminating waste and building competence to deliver health value to patients. Ultimately, this enables medical staff to earn a living through work styles that align with their personal lives, rather than relying on self-sacrifice.
We look forward to discussing effective, actionable strategies with you.
We sincerely hope you will join us for this event.

【Reclaiming Healthcare: From Illness to Wellness】
●Dr. Kenji Shibuya
30 min
Modern medicine is heavily skewed toward treating disease, drifting away from the true purpose of living a healthy life. Through the fusion of Eastern wisdom and Western medicine—as well as cutting-edge science and ancient knowledge—healthcare is transforming from an “Illness” model to a “Wellness” approach. Dr. Shibuya will discuss the latest global trends and the potential for Japanese healthcare.
【New Value in “Medicine” Learned from Japanese Acupuncture and Moxibustion】
● Mr. Hajime Nakane
30 min
The number of international tourists experiencing “Japanese acupuncture and moxibustion” is rising annually, and its global reputation is growing. What value is being found in this practice? Mr. Nakane will explain the forefront of the field, which shares a structural similarity with preventive dental maintenance.
【World-Class Oral Health】
●Dr. Naota Kumagai

Long-term maintenance has successfully created a large number of patients with zero cavities and zero periodontal inflammation. However, maintaining this state for a lifetime requires overcoming changes in the risk of cavities and periodontal disease caused by systemic health factors. We will discuss medical-dental collaboration centered on prevention.
【How Clinicians Can Contribute to Preventive Medicine and Healthy Longevity】
●Dr. Yasuharu Tokuda
30 min
Preventive medicine and care for healthy longevity are set to expand. General practitioners are expected to play the most pivotal role in this field. How can physicians and healthcare professionals contribute to the public, and what forms of practice can they adopt? Dr. Tokuda will discuss the future potential of general practitioners and their collaboration with preventive dentistry.
【Health Value Generated by Medical-Dental Integration in the U.S.】
●Dr. Robert Lewando
30 min
It is known that patients who maintain good oral health have fewer medical consultations; consequently, private health insurance companies in the U.S. offer programs that reward policyholders who maintain good oral health. Dr. Lewando will explain the benefits of medical-dental integration as revealed by insurance subscriber data.
【Panel Discussion 1: Japanese Medical and Dental Care Chosen by the World】
How do patients recognize and choose preventive medicine and the value of health? Can we protect and enhance that value—and translate it into appropriate compensation? Does Japan hold a competitive advantage? We will discuss the current landscape and future prospects with leading experts in the field.
